Our Election Day

After learning all about the General Election, we held our own election. We listened to everyone's manifestos and voted for our My Happy Mind Ambassadors. 

RYA Sailing Level 1

Our children in Year 2 - 4 have all achieved their Royal Yachting Association Level 1 Sailing qualification. They show great skill and determination in a variety of weather conditions. We can't wait to continue our sailing journey. 

Kayaking

Our younger children have been learning to kayak. Today we went across Lake Ullswater and along Goldrill Beck where they tackled the current and managed to paddle a long way upstream. 

Forest Shelter

The children have been really excited about the new shelter being built in our forest area. Today we finally managed to see the shelter finished. Whilst there we practiced lighting small fist fires and ended the session with some delicious smores. 

Appleby 5k Fun Run

Congratulations to all of the children who took part in the Appleby 5K fun run, raising fund for our wonderful school. 

Run for Ryan Charity Run

It was wonderful to see so many children, staff, parents and governors come together to support such a wonderful cause, that is very close to the hearts of many in our community. 

Lowther Park Visit

We took the children to Lowther Park to continue the Acorns learning about microhabitats and the Oaks learning about sculptures. The Oaks also took photographs of their sculptures to enter in the Milburn School in September. 

Red Squirrels Visit

This half term the children have been learning about Red Squirrels and enjoyed a visit from Penrith Red Squirrels Association. The children really wanted to be able to see red squirrels in their own habitat, so we visited Shap Wells. The children identified lots of evidence of red squirrels and we were lucky enough to see a number of them during the visit. 

Archery

This term the children have developed their archery skills. For some children this was their first time. They showed great focus and made great progress. 

Learning Celebration

For our Summer 1 learning celebration the children created an interactive display so that parents were able to use iPads and access videos created by the children via QR codes. 

Sailing and Canoeing

Today we visited Ullswater so some of our children could start their Royal Yachting Association Level 1 sailing qualification. It was a very wet and cold day but the children showed grit and determination. 

RE: Christianity: Symbols

As part of our learning about Christian Symbols, we visited St Cuthbert's Church, our local church in Milburn. Reverend Andrew talked to us all about the history of the church and about the various parts of the church and what they are used for. We also did a hunt for the symbols we had been learning about. 

RE: Christianity: The Bible

We have been exploring different types of Bible, discovering that not all Bibles are the same!

RE: The Ten Commandments 

We have been learning about the rules that Christians try to live their everyday lives by and  made some freeze frame sketches to show what the last 6 of the Ten Commandments might look like in real life - showing love and respect to others. Some were trickier than others!

Recorder Club 

Session 1 - well done everyone. This was an amazing start!

Tanzania Visitor

Today we were visited by Wendy. In a few weeks Wendy is going to visit an orphanage in Tanzania. Today she came to school to talk to the children about where and why she is going. The children have asked many questions that Wendy is going to find out the answers to whilst she is there. We can’t wait to hear all about her visit when she returns. 

School Nativity 2023

Our Christmas performance this year 'The Sleepy Shepherd' was held in St Cuthbert's Church. It was wonderful to be joined by so many parents and members of the local community.

Christingles

Today the children continued their learning about Christianity and created their own Christingles.

Christmas Lunch

Thank you to all of the staff in the kitchen of Appleby Primary School, we all thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas lunch.  

Wheelchair Basketball

Today we had a great session with World Champion Wheelchair Basketballer Nat Pattinson.

Wonka Cinema Visit

After seeing Wonka at Alhambra the children were inspired to create their very own chocolate factory back n school. 

Glass Artist Visit

Today the children took part in a workshop with visiting glass artist Carola Frank. They designed and created beautiful Christmas decorations.

Art Club

Throughout this half term the children have produced some amazing artwork. They learnt new skills and have been keen to experiment and try new techniques. The children used pencils to draw still life pictures, watercolour to create poppies for Remembrance Day, they printed Christmas cards and made wreaths and baubles.

Saying Goodbye

Today we said Goodbye to a wonderful supporter of our school. Ina is going to be greatly missed by everyone in the community but especially everyone in school. We can't wait to send you lots of letters. 

Learning Celebration

Thank you to all of the parents that came to our learning celebration today.

Agents for Change Farm Visit

As part of our agents for change project we visited Bankwood Farm to learn more about bees and the role they play in the farming of pumpkins. During the visit the children learnt about the importance of bees in the life cycle of pumpkins. They also worked on their mapping and identification skills.

Sewing Club

During sewing club this half term the children have been developing their skills. They have each made their own pin cushion and helped create lots of pumpkins to add to our scarecrow. 

U-Dance Performance

Over the last few months the children have been working hard to create and rehearse their dance that gives the message that we need to speak up about racism and that together we have a bigger voice. Last night the children performed on the huge stage at the Sands Centre, Carlisle in front of a packed audience. 

Planetarium Visit

Today our friends from Clifton School joined us to immerse themselves in space. Throughout the morning the children visited the planetarium and created wonderful galaxy wet felting artwork.

Eden Rock

Over the last 6 weeks the children have been developing their bouldering skills and working towards their NICAS Bouldering Level 1. 

Titanic Outdoor Adventure

Mayday, Mayday, Mayday!!! Today the children escaped from RMS Titanic. After the ship had struck the iceberg the children rowed their lifeboats to the Carpathia. They then sent Morse code SOS messages and practiced working as a team to make sure everyone could be rescued and returned to school. 

Road Safety Workshop

Today the children took part in a Road Safety Pyjama Drama workshop. The children had great fun and learnt a lot of important lessons.

Today the children met Jack Rutter, GB Paralympian. He spoke about the challenges he has faced and his achievements with the GB cerebral palsy team. They also took part in a training session with him.
